WHO'S WHO IN Proust
Fair Arts
Photography
As Marcel Proust lay in bed re-creating the Belle Epoque for Remembrance of Things Past, Paul Nadar was busy making his own collection of the same people in his photography studio on the Boulevard des Capucines. Though Proust denied the similarities between his characters and the world of his acquaintances, when the Marquise de Brantes sent him her photograph, he reminded her that his own “imagination" would retouch it to the point of perfect resemblance. Some fifty Nadar photographs will illustrate the forthcoming book by William Howard Adams, A Proust Souvenir, to be published by Vendome Press later this year.
