Martha Graham
FLASHBACK
Martha Graham, the grande old dame of modern dance, struck this striking pose with Charles Weidman in 1930, a year after she formed her company. The dramatic dress, which suits her to a T, is remarkably like the fire-engine-red Halston she wore for her coup de theatre curtain calls in 1984. The dance world is holding its collective breath to see what she'll be wearing on the first night of her 1985 New York season (April 2 at the State Theater) after the world premiere of her new work, Song, extrapolated from the Song of Solomon and accompanied by Romanian folk tunes played on the panpipes.
