All the Way with I.M. Pei

TOAST OF THE MONTH

All is Vanities. Nothing is fair.

Raise your glasses to Mr. I. M. Pei. His Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan will open its crystal wings on April 1. In an age when public building has been a dreary marriage of glass and concrete, I. M. Pei & Partners has triumphed time and again in affairs of light, form—and, always, function. Where others build, Pei sculpts: the Hancock Tower in Boston, the East Building of the National Gallery, the Louvre pyramid, and now this elegant soap-bubble dream on the Hudson. Cheers, I. M.
