Ten-Gallon Gala
VANTIES
The poor beleaguered oil-rich of Houston at long last have something to sing about: a brand-new, Texas-size opera house to sing in. The Gus S. Wortham Theater Center, a $70 million arts complex with two stages, opens May 9 with a gusher of a gala. But the true cause for celebration is that the Center was financed entirely by private donations. With high-riding patrons like Lynn Wyatt and Placido Domingo (co-chairs of the International Honorary Committee), the Wortham is taking off at a gallop.
