Remember Lake's blond lustrous dip? Veronica Or Rita Hayworth's cascading waves of red in GildalEvery great star had great hair in Hollywood's glamorous golden age, when studios prided themselves on chic coifs designed by their own master stylists. (Sydney Guilaroff at MGM and Helen Hunt at Columbia set the splendor standard.) Where have all the good styles gone? At this year's Oscars the shears invited sneers. The bombshells bombed. Only Elizabeth Taylor looked like a movie star should. Her cut showed no signs of scissor-happy snips or eggbeater coils—hairdresser Jose Eber boasts, "It took me the whole afternoon.''
