Where style meets substance

David Cameron's clothes are inspired in equal measure "by Walt Disney and Yves Saint Laurent.'' The resulting hybrid, cartoon couture, flowered vividly in the twenty-six-year-old's recent collection, an homage to the Harlem of the forties. Cameron grew up in Santa Barbara an avowed television addict and arrived in New York six years ago as impressionable as a blank videotape. He soon began translating his observations on everything from lowriders to bicycle messengers into tailored clothes with comic-book proportions. Though he has the face and manner of a surfboard Adonis, Cameron is as obsessive a perfectionist as any designer in New York. Seventh Avenue, watch out.
