Hot Kate
Where style meets substance

For Kate Capshaw, sweating it out in the Sri Lankan jungle during 1983's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom shoot was a small price to pay for escaping "the oatmeal suburbia of my Missourian childhood and getting to work in an exotic land with the most brilliant filmmakers of the century" (one of whom, director Steven Spielberg, is now her reallife leading man). "Indy was a milestone," says the thirtyfive-year-old actress. "It changed my life in every way." Back this month opposite Michael Douglas in the mega-yen thriller Black Rain, Capshaw plays "a tight-lipped, Mafia-tied, blowsy, hip broad who works in a hostess club in Osaka." And what about future wedding bells? ''I hope— wouldn't that be fun!"
