Where style meets substance
When Down Under's cult darling Yahoo Serious explodes onto a thousand screens this summer, he'll assume Pee-wee Herman's whacked-out but innocently endearing mantle. Young Einstein (which Serious wrote, directed, produced, and stars in) is based on Albert, but turns him into a Tasmanian apple farmer who happens upon the theory of relativity while trying to put bubbles in beer. In the flick, Einstein romances brainy Marie Curie ("I am Australian," says Serious, "but the film has none of that Paul Hogan 'Me, Tarzan. You, Jane' stuff") and saves the world with a staggering electric-guitar solo.
