In the finest tradition of collegiate-breakdown films, Wurtzel wakes up groggy from dismal one-night stands, lurches across spinning dance floors, sobs a lot, and fights a catty running battle with her glib mother (Lange). I'm writing os fast as I can: Movie repeatedly stops dead for scenes of Wurtzel at her dorm desk, furiously scribbling, accompanied by solemn voice-overs in which she quotes Hemingway and, alas, herself. Wait, who's that guy? In a truly mystifying lapse of judgment, Lou Reed appears in a cameo as Lou Reed. (Rating: ★★★¼)
