MY DESK Philip Treacy
NOVEMBER 2010

Philip Treacy launched his business in the basement of the late, great fashion icon Isabella Blow’s London home. He has created looks for the collections of Karl Lagerfeld, Valentino, and Alexander McQueen, among others. From his studio in London—filled with feathers, ribbons, and pearls—and with his two Jack Russells at his side, Treacy designs fantastical hats because "everyone has a I head, so everyone has a possibility to wear a hat.”

A hat made for Alexander McQueen's show in October 2007, a tribute to Isabella Blow. H.R.H. Prince Charles and H.R.H. the Duchess of Cornwall. I made this hat for the Duchess to wear when they married, in 2005. The moulds of various hats over the years. Each hat has its own mould. An orchid hat from my first haute couture show in Paris, in 2000. I used these horns from Isabella Blow's Soay ram as the mould for a hat worn by Naomi Campbell in Alexander McQueen's first Givenchy haute couture show. I made this hat for Lady Gaga to wear at the Grammys in 2010. My parents, James and Katie Treacy. Bruce Weber gave me this Polaroid when he did a shoot at my studio a few months ago. I love Bruce Weber. A transparent veil I am making for Daphne Guinness. Isabella Blow's signature pink ink and a collection of thimbles Sarah Jessica Parker gave me for my birthday this year. A lace mask I made for Valentino Couture in 2009. A lace shoe I designed for Valentino for springsummer 2010. My dog Archie, a very clever and adorable Jack Russell He is not stuffed. A book by Martina Rink about the life of Isabella Blow, who was my muse, mentor, and great friend. Grace Jones in her dressing room in Stockholm, after a show, photographed by Goran Ilicic. I art-directed her shows in 2009. We have collaborated for 15 years.
