VANITY FAIR NOMINATES BRAVEWELL

Hall of Fame

BECAUSE they understand what must happen to transform health care. Their investment focuses on a new system of care based on integrative medicine, an approach that emphasizes prevention and attends to the mental, physical, and spiritual needs of each individual. BECAUSE they strive for high-impact philanthropy with measurable outcomes. Bravewell's work, predicated on consensus and collaboration with their strategic partners, has produced a highly effective philanthropic model. Bravewell funded a national Summit on Integrative Medicine and the Health of the Public, at the Institute of Medicine, in Washington, D.C., which spurred a nationwide conversation about the need for prevention and patient-centered care and the public-private partnership needed to get us there. BECAUSE they bravely support fundamental shifts in our approach to care itself. Christy Mack, Penny George, and Diane Neimann of the Bravewell Collaborative argue that we currently focus on the episodic treatment of disease and are driven by the requirements of a broken system. They passionately want medicine to return to its soul, the altruistic call to service that treats the whole person in the context of one's community. I heartily concur.

BECAUSE this small community of philanthropists believe that by working together they can accomplish more than any one individual could alone. And, most of all, BECAUSE they remind us of what it means to give on all levels for the good of the whole. Bravewell, with its exemplary philanthropy, is a respected steward of the vision that is integrative medicine.
