The first major museum retrospective to honor the late A. Quincy J ones, the L.A.-based architect known for his midcentury modernist work, opens May 25 and runs through September 8 at the Hammer Museum, in Los Angeles. Jones was as well known for the glamorous homes he designed for clients such as the actor Gary Cooper and the art collectors Frances and Sidney Brody as he was for his commercial buildings, notably U.S.C.'s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, the Sascha Brastoff ceramics factory, and the Warner Bros. Records headquarters, in Burbank. "A. Quincy Jones: Building for Better Living" will showcase a myriad of the visionary's projects and will highlight his reverence for the outdoors, (hammer.ucla.edu)
