LUCA GUADAGNINO annotates a script page from his first television series
Vanities /Take Note
Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino ventured into uncharted waters twice over with his new HBO series, We Are Who We Are—his first foray into television and the first project for which he traded his typical 35-mm film for digital, because, he says, "this is a show about the here and now." The series (premiering September 14) takes place on an American military base in Italy during the lead-up to Trump's election and centers on two teenagers exploring identity, sexuality, and family dynamics. "At the end of the day, no one really knows who he is, she is, they are," Guadagnino says, "It's always a transition that we live through."
