Many people still believe that New York is a jungle. They’re right. But the pretty, witty, and gifted know that if you can make it in New York you can make it anywhere. Among the young hopefuls who have done the Manhattan Transfer, from left to right: RODNEY ALAN GREENBLAT, twenty-three, who came from Maryland to study at the School of Visual Arts. Spotted by downtown gallery owner Grade Mansion, his work will soon be seen in Tokyo and Cologne. CATARINA COWAN, twenty-two, grew up in Oxford, where her father is a university don. She is now trying her hand (or rather face) at modeling. CHRISTOPHER GOODE, twenty-four, originally from California, is one of the four owners and masterminds behind Area, Manhattan’s hottest new night spot, where the decor changes more often than the clientele’s clothes. CHRISTINA OXENBERG, twentyone, is the daughter of Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia and the sister of model-actress Catherine. She is a public relations person by day and a socialite by night. Or is it the other way around? Italy’s CONTESSINA FRANCESCA BRASCHI, twenty-three, is a dress designer. She also happens to speak five languages— which must come in handy when dealing with difficult customers. DARIUS AZARI, twenty-four, another California transplant, works with Christopher Goode at Area and has been spotted tablehopping with Bianca Jagger.
