Ars Longo
Call it the Richard III frug, but artist Robert Longo had other contortions in mind when he executed the massive (nine-by-five-foot) drawings of Men in the Cities, now published by Abrams. The models for these urban spasms are not strobe-lit dancers; Longo photographed (then drew) friends and fellow artists while pelting them with stones, tennis balls—anything that caused a “high impact moment.” This month, the drawings are on exhibit at California State’s University Art Museum in Long Beach, and New York’s Metro Pictures gallery will show the artist’s most recent work in May.
