Chens Up
Sibling Arrivals
Not long ago, Joan and Chase Chen were in Hong Kong when the latter remarked that he wanted to go home. Then the brother and sister realized they weren't sure where that was: Shanghai, where they grew up? Los Angeles, where they live today? "We both felt a bit sad," says Joan, the thirty-year-old actress, best known for her roles in The Last Emperor and Twin Peaks, "that you kind of don't know." Children of China's Cultural Revolution, the Chens share, says Joan, a strong sense of "the impact of time." A corresponding nostalgia pervades their book, Chase (Morosstudio Originals, Inc.), a collection of thirty-two-year-old Chase's wistful paintings with a lyrical text of reminiscences by Joan.
