The COASTER Correspondence
MORE OF THE VERY EXPENSIVE WORDS
Edwin John Coaster,
VANITY FAIR tIGALA::AIssioTo, April 6. 2010 l)c.tr (iraydon: I hate to be the tmc to throw cold water on the party, but there's really no way we can quote estensively from J. D. Salingers letters to Ed ( oaster. much less print them in full. The Salinger l.',tatc puts the clamps dossn pretty quickls on an~onc who tries to publish more than what's considered a fair-usc quolai ion. \Iught I suggest that Ed simph paraphrase S~ilingcr's letters and limit the actual quotations to live or sis s~ords apiece? lso, while it seems e~ident that the Vermont pen pal to whom Salinger sometimes refers as `Prol. `tcdd~' is indeed the Unabomber. c don't have enough substantiation to come out and say that Salinger was friends with Kac,ynski and co-ssrote his manifesto, Industrial S~sieiv and Its Ii,iure I'd drop any mention of that altogether. Regards,

VANITY FAIR April . 2~fl) (r~i~doii: Fm orr~. but tlie~c quotes arc stifl too long to pass the 1air-u~c test. Id might use the ords upcnded hird\ nest' to describe Saltnger\ arousal. for citample. but he can't go on it length. lie has to step up and write prose rather than rely on quoting.
