MOLLY GOES LIGHTLY
January 1985

For every action there's a reaction, so they say. Thus last year's preoccupation with severely mannish styles now turns to a new, somewhat excessive desire for femininity and flowers. Suddenly the key word everywhere is pretty: pretty pastels, pretty prints— and when they get it wrong, pretty awful. One then discovers Whatever Happened to the Baby Jane Look. It's alive and well and influencing several of the spring collections. Here, looking pretty as a picture (and not a horror picture), is sixteen-year-old film actress Molly Ringwald. Star of Sixteen Candles and the upcoming The Breakfast Club, she is also up for the role of the ill-fated Edie Sedgwick in the film-of-the-book, planned by her close friend the perennial pretty-hoy Warren Beatty.
