Michael Billington is the drama critic of the Guardian in London. His recent books include studies of Alan Ayckbourn and Tom Stoppard. He is currently at work on a book about the career of actress Peggy Ashcroft.

John Lahr's essay is adapted from his introduction to The Orton Diaries, out this month from Harper & Row. Vintage has reissued his biography of Joe Orton, Prick Up Your Ears, a film of which is also due this month.

Ron Rosenbaum's recent articles are collected in Manhattan Passions: True Tales of Power, Wealth, and Excess, out from Beech Tree/William Morrow. His first novel was Murder at Elaine's; he is at work on a second.

Hal Rubenstein is one of the original contributors to Details, for which he provides the column "I'll Eat Manhattan." Mr. Rubenstein also writes for Elle, Interview, Vogue, and the New York Daily News.

Stephen Schiff,Vanity Fair's critic-at-large, writes about cultural issues. His recent articles include the March profile of film director David Lynch and the October profile of Austrian actor Klaus Maria Brandauer.

Gail Sheehy's books include the best-selling Passages and Spirit of Survival, which she is adapting as a screenplay for Warner Bros. Her article in this issue continues her series for Vanity Fair on presidential hopefuls.

Snowdon's photographs appear in Vanity Fair, British Vogue, and the London Sunday Times Magazine. He has published eleven books and made eleven TV films, one of which won two Emmys.

John Waters's films include Polyester and the underground classic Pink Flamingos. He is about to begin shooting another film, and his book Crackpot, a collection of hfs writings, is currently out from Macmillan.
