As head of CBS for nearly sixty years, William S. Paley was responsible for some of the most memorable programming in television history. On November 12, 1990, friends from the worlds of the media, society, politics, and finance gathered to pay tribute to the man about whom The New York Times once wrote, "He is to American broadcasting as Carnegie was to steel, Ford to automobiles, Luce to publishing, and Ruth to baseball."
