Is becoming enlightened and having a blast asking too much in the sobering nineties? This month, Women in Need (WIN), an agency that provides services to New York City's homeless women, offers supporters a festival of modem dance at the Joyce Theater. Noted choreographers—among them Molissa Fenley and Elizabeth Streb—have been asked to participate by dance curator Gina Gibney, whose company will also perform. (Last year WIN sent seventy-five homeless kids to summer camp thanks to its spring benefit.) No less lauded were the efforts of Don't Bungle the Jungle in 1989, with Madonna leading the pack of preservationists that scored $500,000 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Now it's New York's Amazon Village that will play host to Don't Bungle the Jungle II by turning over its opening night, May 20, to a fashion show of unique "jungle-inspired" creations by famed designers. That wild urban wit Fran Lebowitz will be offering her commentary on the spot.
