Chanel’s New Twist

Paris’s star couturiere translated her avant-garde fashion sense into a famously fragrant form after introducing the world to Chanel No. 5, in 1921. Nearly half a century after launching that indelible scent, Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel, at age 87, dared to design what became the final addition to her redolent repertoireChanel No. 19, named for her birthday, August 19. This month, Chanel unveils its re-interpretation of No. 19, which was created by Jacques Polge, the house’s renowned “nose.” While retaining the original’s powdery iris and crisp, green notes, No. 19 Poudre has subtle supplements of mandarin orange, jasmine absolute, white musk, and tonka bean. This modern take on Chanel’s parting perfume re-awakens the joie de vivre of the woman who wore it best, (chanel.com)
