Hamptons Babylon

The year that Hollywood came to the haute Hamptons turned out to be much like any other. Those Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse Martha Stewart, Mort Zuckerman, Jerry Della Femina, and Peggy Siegal were everywhere. This was the summer that Al D'Amato and Claudia Cohen were a couple, Marvin and Barbara Davis were renters, and polo returned to the Hamptons. So did native son Chevy Chase. Pat Kluge took over the part played by Melanie Griffith last year: single female renter (same role, different house). Hot tickets included Paul Simon's annual benefit concert in Montauk, Mickey Schulhof's huge hoedown, Warner LeRoy's optimistic 25th-wedding-anniversary party, George Soros's 65th-birthday cruise, Marty Richards's dancers in the afternoon, and Jane Wenner's beach birthday party for her son, with proud father Jann in attendance.
