BRUCE WEBER SHOOTS FOR CHARITY
Elvis Presley croons “You ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog” to a hound dog. Elizabeth Taylor cuddles up to a Yorkshire terrier. A young Paul Newman fries an egg while Joanne Woodward nestles a Jack Russell terrier in her arms. Grace Kelly pauses on the deck of an ocean liner with a Weimaraner. Throw in a few drawings by notables such as David Bowie, Patti Smith, and Keith
Haring, and—voila!—an exhibition, with an accompanying book, is born. In this case, it’s “Heel to Heal”: the collection of animal paintings, drawings, and photographs belonging to Bruce Weber and his partner, Nan Bush, which will be on display from March 14 to June 1 at the Gallery at Windsor, in Vero Beach, Florida. And if you’ve ever dreamed of having your very own portrait taken by Weber, with or without pet, he’ll be auctioning off the opportunity at the opening. All proceeds are going to
the Delta Society, a national charity that provides animals as therapy for the ill and disabled. Why an animal charity? “They bring such happiness to us and to so many other people,” says Bush, who, with Weber, owns five golden retrievers.
