Athens, Georgia, home of butter beans and cute drummers, has spawned a friendly smudge of newsprint to keep up with that town's multiplying rock scene—Tasty World Magazine. Modeled on the late, mourned NY Rocker, Tasty World features news both on established Athens bands (R.E.M., the B-52's, Love Tractor) and on fledglings who have made only a few ventures north (the Squalls, Go Van Go). The prize item in the premiere issue was an advice column called "Ask Dixie," in which Dix dispensed such sage advice as "You get out your shotgun and tell that white trash sister of yours to get off your damn property." The second issue featured a report on the search for the Coolest Record in northeast Georgia, which yielded a rare little item called "This Little Girl's Gone Rockin' "—"I left some biscuits for the pup /1 put fresh water in his cup / And now I'm off, I'm gonna live it up / THIS LITTLE GIRL'S GONE AROCKIN'." We have urged the editor of Vanity Fair to adopt this as her theme song, but so far no go. Tasty World costs ten dollars for twelve issues (Box 423, Athens, Georgia 30601), and its editor, David Hannon Pierce, claims to have a great recipe for squash casserole.
